Full Story
The Grange turns 100 years old in 2026. And as 100th birthdays go, it’s going to be quite lively: world-class sport, 3 days of music and a global nation of fans converging from all sides.
This is officially the World's Best Golf Event, and it's a long, long way from how this course started out. Let's take a look back at that journey, and see what lies in wait for the LIV Golf stars in 2026.
What happened before LIV Golf arrived?
The course was once a piece of swampland, home to snakes and creepy-crawlies, before a bunch of plucky amateurs decided to create their own piece of golfing heaven back in the 1920s. The course officially opened in 1927, with the players using iron rings because the greens weren't ready for holes to be sunk.
In the aftermath of World War II, revered architect Vern Morcom was hired to oversee a dramatic redesign. He and his team didn't just transform the original course, they built an entirely new one - and it was this new, East Course that witnessed arguably The Grange's greatest moment until LIV Golf arrived.
In 1976, The Grange welcomed the West Lakes Classic, the first major tournament on the Spring Circuit. A host of top players turned out to fight for the $35,000 purse, but it was an unknown kid from Queensland who stole the show, winning his first pro event in the process. The kid's name? Greg Norman. And you may have heard that he had quite a good career after that...
What's happened since LIV Golf arrived?
Well, how long have you got?!!
Our first event in 2023 witnessed a hole-in-one which sent the Watering Hole into ecstasy, and has been viewed over half a million times on YouTube.
Then, in 2024, Cam Smith's all-Aussie Ripper GC claimed a fairytale win in LIV Golf's first-ever team play-off, beating the South Africans of Stinger GC in front of a packed crowd on 18.
2025 saw victories for Joaco Niemann in the individual race, and Sergio García's Fireballs GC in the team event. But perhaps the biggest news game off the field: LIV Golf recorded its first-ever six-figure crowd, pulling in 102,000 fans across the three days.
How does the course play?
The Grange has had lots of redesigns over the years, with Greg Norman himself undertaking one of the most recent. And today you'll find some lovely features all over the course, including tricky bunkers, big drop-offs and contoured greens.
That said, there are plenty of scoring areas around the course, and good shots will be properly rewarded.
Who will it favor?
It sounds simple, but it's true nonetheless: the players who can stay consistent will reap the rewards. Manage risk, hit those birdies and you've got a chance.
And the crowd comes into play here like practically nowhere else in the world. It's going to be pretty loud out there, so the players have got to stay in their bubble and not let the atmosphere affect them.
How do I buy a ticket?
